MUFIDS is a strange-sounding acronym for “Multi-User Information Display System. ”
These are the display monitors you see in airport terminals. Often they are free-standing support systems for holding the monitors. The arrival and departure flight information is displayed in real time performs an important role among airport travelers. Groups of passengers are often seen congregating around them. These free-standing displays are sometimes double-sided. The rail display systems were designed purely to hold up the wired monitors. The structures’ function of stability and strength is key, with little attention paid to the overall aesthetic. However, recently I have seen some monitors encased with the same sexy stainless steel sheathing as appliances in modern American kitchen.
But wait there’s more….
In this modern age, it wasn’t that long ago that the thought of wrapping an automobile in advertising graphics was considered an oddity. Today this practice is commonplace, and you see the roadways overrun with cars, trucks, and semis rolling down the highway dressed in full, color large format graphics. You may have trained yourself to ignore them unless you happen to get stuck behind one at a stop light. But like Times Square, densely populated areas are still viewed as valuable real estate for advertisers. Airport terminals can have a limited amount of advertising space.
It is this type of thought process that beckoned us to “think outside the box” and so we literally did just that! My large format graphics company was approached by the company who manages such spaces, and asked us to uncover new space for hanging airport graphics. We love a challenge and went for it, because we are a staff of capable problem solvers. In our discovery search, we came up with two new areas for displaying large format graphics.
To solve this problem, we custom designed and fabricated hanging systems for this new advertising real estate. The first such area we worked through is above eye level, which works great for large format graphics. Large format graphics can be easily viewed from across the room. It’s a common practice you may have noticed in European airports. The area is above eye level, but under the soffits of a given building. Some refer to placing images there as sofitt graphics. Since large format graphics can be viewed at a distance, being made of gigantic proportions; this is a great solution.
Our collaborative solution and resolve was to custom fabricate a display system to suit the MUFIDS. Our resourceful team listened, brainstormed, design it, produced it and installed it. The displays are made with lightweight fabric graphics supported by a custom framing system of fabricated brackets suitable only to MUFIDS. There are spaces available below and in-between the monitors. Our company custom spec’d and designed entirely a new design bracketing system and a hanging system for the large format graphics on MUFIDS. This system discretely displays lightweight fabric graphics, making change outs happen quickly, once the framing system has been installed. Our staff of capable problem solvers enjoy a challenge!
