Advantages of Backlit Fabric Graphics

 

Backlit fabric graphics have great color saturation. This current method of creating and displaying backlit graphics has many advantages. The fabric is an overall lighter solution, and more manageable product. It has a higher tolerance for travel damage. It allows for efficient change outs of the graphics in the assembled box. It has versatility because the graphic looks good, whether backlit or not. It can include green material options. The cost advantages of backlit fabric graphics: savings on shipping and product durability. Large format fabric graphics fold into manageable proportions and it has better endurance to the handling and abuse of trade show travel, giving it a longer shelf life. The  light weight aluminum framing with no backing allow for a lighter package. The light box can be broken down into lengths only, and become an incredibly efficient package. The durability of the components of this display product allow peace of mind when it comes to shipping off your graphics.

BACKGROUND FACTS ABOUT FABRIC GRAPHICS

THE DYES: are embedded into the fibers of the fabric by a process called dye sublimation fabric printing. The water-based inks get heated up, become a gas, and when cooled, the ink is entrapped in the very fibers of the fabric. When the fibers are heated up near melting point; its condition makes the fabric receptive to the gassed inks. When cooled, the fibers close down, and entrap the inks; giving it a permanent bond! The end product is a sharp,large image on fabric which is both easy to fold and wash. Imagine being able to fold an enormous size graphic image into a small, tidy package for travel! Gone are the days of the large cumbersome image on a rigid substrate and no more dog earring nor scratching of any protective sheets of acrylic.

THE FABRIC: Typically the kind of fabric used in dye sublimation transfer printing is polyester fabric. It should be noted that polyester fabric can be made available with percentages of recycled content, such as recycled plastic bottles. Ask your PSP about this opportunity. The material is washable and it folds. You should receive many years out of a single fabric graphic!

SIZE: No longer are confined to the former limited industry standards. The fabric image and paired light box are custom created to your specifications. The only limit is the capacity of enlargement from the supplied digital image file. Widths of the fabric for printing typically run up to eight to ten feet. The length of the fluorescent bulbs no longer dictates the final size of the lightbox, as the new LED lighting is hung with flexible wiring around the perimeter of the rectangle.

THE LIGHT BOX: The biggest advantage is that any size is cut to length, no longer confined to standard size; the sky is almost the limit. Convention is broken, and now the size of your graphic will totally dictate the size of the box. No longer shipped as a large framed rectangular box with a rigid metal backing. The backing is now a piece of white fabric. This light box, broken down into lengths, can be shipped  in a single tube container. It should be noted, there is a  time investment for assembling these light boxes, as in trade show set ups. There is no longer a need for a protective outer layer of acrylic. With no back and no front sheet, imagine how this lowers the costs of the handling and shipping. Manufacturers are now providing adjustable height shipping cases that support the varying lengths of the frames. These cases are small and lightweight, which you can either strap on and go or ship common small package carrier.

THE FRAME: Many PSP offer light boxes made of recycled or recyclable aluminum, making this a greener solution as well. As mentioned earlier, the lengths of the frame is determined by you, the space, and the range of your digital file. Each length breaks down and is shipped in a single tube container.

LIGHTS: For backlit fabric, you’ll be using the energy efficient LED lighting. This supplies an even illumination on the fabric image and its diffusion sheet. The lights are mounted inside the box on a recessed track made for the lights. Not only is this lightsource more energy efficient due to its long lasting properties; realize you no longer have to deal with the negatives of shipping fluorescent tubes. LED lighting is lighter, durable, and more manageable, as they can be rolled up in tiny cardboard boxes. LED’s were originally available in the cool,blue spectrum, but now the manufacturers have adapted them to a more neutral white light. You can even ask for LED’s in a custom warm color temperature when you have lots of reds and oranges in your image. LEDs are safer, greener, and the trade show industry is definitely headed in this direction.
